Pollo Real is the first Certified Organic, pastured poultry operation in the United States. Pollo Real chickens are grass fed using rotational grazing methods that build healthy soils, preserve water, and do not pollute the air, soil, or water. The birds are moved daily on fresh grasses with fresh air and sunshine. The birds graze on organic pastures, eat organic grains, and are processed on farm.

Products

The chickens are available year round as whole fryers, whole roasters, and cut-up fryers. Pollo Real offers french and american birds, whole, boneless skinless, boneless skin on, split bone-in breast, farm bred heritage turkeys, whole, cut up parts along with green chili – garlic turkey sausages and sixty hour chicken and turkey broths.

Process

Greater care means better taste

At Pollo Real, chickens are harvested right on the farm. This eliminates long-distance hauling, so there is no undue stress or injury to the birds. Our chickens are hand processed at each step in our USDA exempt processing facility on the farm. This means the birds are inspected with our process ensuring you a SAFE and flavorful bird.
Over many years of hard work, research and development, we have created a portable shelter for birds. The “Churt” is tough and durable. The shelter protects birds from predators, weather, high winds and can be easily moved by hand. 
Our rotational grazing methods take more time, more work, and more expenses; but we’re sure you will agree it’s all worth it!

About Tom

Tom is a 6th generation farmer that has grown, produced and direct marketed organic and sustainable food for over 50 years. Pollo Real was re-located 25 years ago along camino real by the Rio Grande in Socorro, N.M. Pollo Real is a true pastured poultry operation and is the first certified organic poultry operation in the U.S., marketing to farmers markets and direct to customer through a buyers club. Tom raises crops along with many different kinds of poultry including American and French meat chicken, Heritage turkeys, and birds for eggs. Tom has been the largest producer of pastured poultry in the U.S. and has presented at many farm conferences and consulted in the U.S. and attended the first and second Slow Foods Tierra Madre in Turin, Italy. Tom was a founding member of APPPA (American Pastured Poultry Producers Association) along with Joel Salatin, and the past president.

Tom has shared his experiences with Universities, the U.S Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Extension Service, National & Local Farm Conferences, and consults for numerous farmers & other organizations. Pollo Real’s knowledge include: breeding flocks of line bred meat chickens; heritage turkey’s and ducks; incubating and hatching; brooding and field production; portable shelters; organic grain operation and sprouting grains; processing, composting, packaging, distributing and marketing.
